The practical aspects of V.I.S. music require students to sing a variety of songs in a choral setting, as well as participate in two productions each year involving music, theatre and dance. The theoretical aspects of music are covered through the study of theory, history, composition, and world music.
Areas of study with regard to music history have included composer studies, and examination of various periods in the history of Western composition. Topics in “Music Around the World” vary from year, and have included Gamelan music from Indonesia, as well as Indian traditional music including Karnataka Sangeeta. The aim of the program is to not only develop vocal proficiency in our students, but to complement this by giving students the analytical and creative tools with which to think about and explore all that music has to offer.
